An Aussie Travels

An Aussie with the travel bug blogs about her travels

Month: April 2013

Madrid No. 2 and Toledo, Spain

Kellie and I got up early and took an hour and 30 euro (maybe a bit more with luggage) plane to Madrid following breakfast in the airport – mine was a ham and cheese tosta that was not quite as delicious but probably slightly healthier (less oily) than the one I had had the previous… Read More Madrid No. 2 and Toledo, Spain

Lisbon, Portugal

After a pleasant four hour bus ride Kellie and I arrived easily at our hostel, the sister hostel of the one at which we had stayed in Lagos. We had made the booking only that day, but someone had forgotten to correct the vacancy figures on Hostelbookers, to the effect that the hostel had actually… Read More Lisbon, Portugal

Lagos, Portugal

Kellie’s and my three nights and 2.5 days in Lagos, Portugal were a time to chill out and not do much to recharge in between all the hectic sightseeing. Upon arrival we were amused that there were only three others staying at the hostel, when it is apparently absolutely crazy in high season. Nonetheless the… Read More Lagos, Portugal

Seville, Spain

Upon arrival in Seville I knew it was the last day of the feria, or the big April festival which sees all of Seville spend an entire week eating and drinking in casas, or family owned tent-ish restaurant-ish things where there is tapas, drink and people performing flamenco or similar.

Granada, Spain

I took the morning train to Granada and found these four hours much more pleasant and easy than plane: my window seat was much roomier and I was able to stow my large suitcase without too much trouble – the same could not be said for those who boarded at later stops.

Madrid, Spain

After a long painful flight via Moscow from Hanoi (I suppose it wasn’t that bad and I saw three good movies: I was just expecting to be able to sleep but in small seats and on a narrow aisle I did precious little), I could not be bothered taking three metro changes to the hostel… Read More Madrid, Spain

Hanoi, Vietnam

When I got back to the hostel in Hanoi I dropped off 5kg of laundry, bought a new little backpack to replace the one with the elegant large hole in the top of mine and got fitted for a pair of custom jeans. Back at the hostel I immediately met 3 people in my dorm… Read More Hanoi, Vietnam

Ha Long Bay Castaways Tour, Vietnam

After eventually getting to my Hanoi hostel I waded through the hoards of partiers in the foyer, packed my small bag for the trip to Ha Long bay, updated my Nha Trang blog, and crashed into bed. The noise from downstairs was still wafting up loud and clear to the room, until at 11pm it… Read More Ha Long Bay Castaways Tour, Vietnam

Nha Trang, Vietnam

After a tasty braised noodle late lunch in Nha Trang I hit the beach, which was much like the Australian Gold Coast had been in being too rough to go in (there were signs) and having yellower, courser sand than Thailand. I lay there for a bit before deciding to go for a run along… Read More Nha Trang, Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

I risked the bus from the airport because I got a tip from Wikitravel and it was waiting right there. Of course my newly purchased 3G sim card randomly cut out and then I ran out of battery, so I started to be concerned that I didn’t actually fully know where to get off, until… Read More Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
